AREVA wins DEWA contract for two high-voltage substations in Dubai (14/03/2008)
AREVA has signed a 150 million euro contract with DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) for the delivery of two high-voltage (400 kV) substations in Dubai.
AREVA’s substations will help DEWA meet the Emirate’s increasing demand for electricity due to its rapid urban expansion. The contract was awarded in partnership with Hyundai Heavy Industries that will supply four power transformers.
DEWA chose AREVA thanks to the group’s project delivery track record and position on the Middle East’s high-voltage market. This success follows the 500 million euro contract awarded to AREVA in January 2008 by Qatari utility, Kahramaa, as part of its grid expansion program.
Marco Graziano, Executive Vice-President of AREVA’s International Sales Organization for its T&D activities, explains: “Thanks to our robust local setup, we are able to provide DEWA with solutions that match their expectations. With the installation of this equipment, our customer will benefit from our latest technologies that minimize power losses and thereby help reduce CO-2 emissions. This new success also reinforces our leading position in the region.”
