In order to revitalize the restaurant at one of London’s premier art institutions, the Royal Academy of Arts, McInnes Usher McKnight Architects (MUMA) in collaboration with the lighting consultancy DHA Design created an innovative lighting scene for the dining area. The lighting solution included colour-changing effects while respecting the traditional architectural characteristics of the space.

Every Friday the restaurant is open until 10pm, with free live music for everyone to enjoy within a predominantly blue scene. The OSRAM LED LINEARlight colormix contributes to this atmosphere, fitted within five servery counters, concealed within a stainless steel frame, for edge-lighting a clear glass portal with frosted edges. While these strips are white during the day, at night they change to blue, or one of a number of preset colour change light shows.

According to Peter Fordham, the lighting designer at DHA Design, “the effect of the OSRAM LED LINEARlight colormix was stunning”.

DHA’s innovative lighting design for the restaurant was named as an Award Winner at the Lighting Design Awards (restaurants and hotels category).
