New-build compliance strategies for electric heating and hot water systems (04/03/2007)
BEAMA Energy's TEHVA (The Electric Heating & Ventilation Association) has published its detailed new-build compliance strategies for electric heating and hot water systems. Developed by Hoare Lea Consulting Engineers, on TEHVA's behalf, the strategies have already been presented to over 200 housebuilders and specifiers.
TEHVA director Kelly Butler commented: "We commissioned this work, because we knew housebuilders were demanding guidance on how to design for compliance within the new Part L of the Building Regulations. This isn' just an issue of having to specify changes to building design to accommodate electric. Whether specifying gas, oil or electric, housebuilders need a tool box of cost effective carbon reduction options.
He concluded "We have filled a gap for the market - our summary strategies are complemented by sensitivity graphs detailing the carbon improvement potential of measures ranging from fabric to solar panels. As housebuilders work hard to cope with a more demanding design regime driven by target and design carbon ratings, they need this type of support."
The Hoare Lea presentation can be found in the downloads section of TEHVA website: www.tehva.org.uk.
