GJD Manufacturing is celebrating 25 years of successful manufacturing and innovation in PIRs and lighting controllers.

In a small workshop in Bolton in 1983, production of a small internal PIR began, then along came an external PIR which was housed in a modified car's rear fog lamp plus a lighting control box.

In the following 2 years the increases in sales funded the development of single and two- zone security lighting controllers followed by a new external PIR and an expanded range of Minipassive internal PIR's.

That same year GJD showed off its new product range at the first IFSEC exhibition at Olympia. In 1990 GJD introduced the first of many innovations including a new lens for the GJD Minipassive - this was a departure from the traditional Fresnel lens by giving multiple vertical curtains. By 1991, GJD was recognised as a market leader in security lighting control.

The priority in the early and mid 90s was the need to supply external PIR's for the blossoming CCTV market and to meet this demand, the then advanced Elite PIR was launched. By 2001 GJD had developed their first wireless system - the Opal RFX and receiver.

For many years' research and development costs had been escalating at an alarming rate and as a consequence many British companies were struggling to keep pace with their rivals in the Far East, who often had far more support from their financial and government institutions.

In Dec 2004, Mark was able to acquire the company. Mark recently said "The decision at the time was a total no brainer. With the massive growth in CCTV and security systems in both the commercial and domestic sectors, the potential for GJD to regain its former position as a market leader, if not the market leader, was there for all to see. I am so pleased to be able to announce that once more a British company is leading the world in external PIR's, CCTV triggers and external lighting control systems and is going from success to success after 25 years."

Mark's tenure as Managing Director, heralded an explosion of over 20 new products into the market, including the high performance range of D-TECT external presence detectors.

The first D-TECT prototype saw the light of day at IFSEC 2005 - closely followed by D-TECT2 in October that year. D-TECT3 appeared in March 2006 and the Dygizone lighting controller in May that year.

2007 saw the launch of D-TECT1 in April ( estined for the export market only) and the high performance D-TECTX external wireless system (PIR, receiver and walk tester ) with a communication range of up to 500 metres.

Multiple launches are planned for 2008, which started with the Mini Opal in January, to be followed by a new Video Gateway and the D-View later in the year.

In 2008 both the home and export markets are seeing strong growth for GJD.
