In August 2008, BS 6651:1999 Code of Practice for protection of structures against lightning is being withdrawn and replaced by the BS EN 62305 series of standards on Protection against Lightning. The BS EN 62305 series of standards covers the protection of structures, their services and contents and people within or adjacent to the structures.

Revised lightning protection standards mean a fundamental change to the way we build in the UK. Standards of increased complexity mean contractors must develop a thorough understanding of new technical demands.

BSI has put together a conference to assist all those responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of lightning protection to address these changes. The conference will help them to understand the changes businesses need to make to current practices and in particular to understand how to carry out the required risk assessments correctly.

The BSI Lightning Protection conference will also cover:
* Why the switch to BS EN 62305:2006 is necessary
* An explanation od the Standard and its four different parts
* A section by section guide to the differences between BS EN 62305:2006 and 6651:1999
* An evaluation of the impact of the new standard and the changes to your practices
* How to develop a new approach to assessing risk.

All those responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of lightning protection for buildings and other structures should attend, including engineering consultants, building and electrical contractors, lightning protection experts/consultants, architects, health and safety officers and local authorities.

Key presenters include:
* Geoff Finlay, Chair, BSI Protection against Lightning Committee
* Rev Christopher Miles, Dioceses of Rochester and Canterbury
* Andy Malinski, Omega Red Group Ltd
* Peter Palles-Clark, (Anglican) Diocese of Chichester
* Alain Rosseau, SEFTIM
