A new family of compact control devices has been announced by Eaton for the OEM market. The range includes contactors, starters and overload relays, manual motor starters, combination motor controllers, relays and timers.

It offers panel builders, machinery manufacturers and other OEM customers a range of compact devices, from 1W to 1000kW, with virtually tool-free installation up to 15A, to meet global requirements for standards, voltage and power ratings.

Panel builders and other OEMs who supply overseas markets, need components that can be shipped around the world. Eaton is a global manufacturer and its development programme is geared to introducing products that can compete in world markets.

The new XT power control products are manufactured to IEC EN 60947 and carry CE, UL, CSA and other approvals. They are available in voltage ratings, from 115V to 1,000V, and have a wide voltage tolerance, from -30% to +20% on DC control contactors, to cater for voltage dips and overvoltages. They comply with the RoHS Directive for the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.

The range includes reversing and non-reversing contactors and starters, and star-delta starters, with AC-3 ratings up to 1,000A. AC or DC control is possible in the same physical frame size as AC controlled devices. Microprocessor-controlled low wattage DC coils ensure reliable operation with a low holding force (500mW) and reduced heating. It is also possible to control devices directly by programmable logic controller.

Installation time is reduced dramatically by tool-free assembly of accessories. Meanwhile wire-free interconnection of reversing and star-delta starter components and combination motor controllers speeds up installation and ensures the integrity of the connection; connector links snap together to make a reliable electrical connection.

XT power control devices are 20-30% smaller than Eaton’s previous offering and so take up less panel space, or fit into enclosures that will not accommodate other devices. Mechanical interconnection allows close-coupling between forward and reversing contactors without the usual space between units. AC and DC contactors are the same physical size.

Twin box terminals enhance connectivity because conductors of different sizes can be connected into separate terminals, thereby ensuring a more reliable connection. Terminals are all IP20 finger- and back-of-hand-proof, resulting in greater safety during maintenance. Built-in NO and NC auxiliary contacts are standard up to 32A.

Final assembly of XT power control devices is carried out in Eaton’s network of Component Assembly Centres. These offer Late Point Definition: the Centres carry all the XT components, enabling them to assemble devices to meet instantaneous demand. This ensures a fast turn-round, not only on standard products but also specials.

Robin Farley, Product Technology Manager for Eaton says “XT Power Components are yet another step in Eaton’s drive to be a truly global supplier offering speedy solutions to the needs of the electrical market, anywhere in the world, with high quality products designed to meet the needs of installer and end user alike.”
