Three-phase distribution boards introduced by Havells Three-phase distribution boards introduced by Havells - news feed from the Electrical News Portal

Havells launched a range of Type B (three-phase) distribution boards for commercial and industrial applications. They are designed specifically for the UK market and offer design features to make installation safe and easy. These include options with pre-wired meters to enable contractors to satisfy the metering requirements of Building Regulations Part L2 easily and economically.

While Havells is a new name to the low voltage switchgear market in the UK it is no newcomer to the business, having been a long-established manufacturer of circuit protection devices for the OEM market. In recent years, Havells has supplied tens of millions of MCB devices to other well known brands in the UK. Havells is already well-known in the UK and Europe for its Sylvania, Concord and Lumiance lighting brands.

Havells’ new Powersafe Type B distribution boards are 125A assemblies with three-pole or four-pole incomers and 4, 6, 8, 12 or 18 outgoing triple-pole MCB ways. They can be supplied with or without meters. Boards can also be fitted with SPSN incomers for use as Type A (single-phase) boards up to 36 ways.

Miniature circuit-breakers are a new 10kA design covering ratings up to 63A and available with Type B or C trip curves. They have shuttered box-clamp terminals, to ensure correct insertion of the conductors, and flag indication as standard. RCBOs are also 10kA Type B or C devices, available in ratings from 6A to 50A.

Metered boards are fully pre-wired with CTs and meters, to speed up installation and reduce the risk of wiring errors. The meters are multi-function types offering both pulsed and RS485 Modbus output as standard.

The enclosures are 1.5mm powder-coated steel, with an IP3X rating, and top or bottom entry. A welded construction facilitates connection to cable trunking when end plates are removed. An insulated cable trunking interface kit is supplied as standard with each unit and can be used as a template for cutting the trunking.

The enclosures have three different earthing positions. Earth and neutral bars are tiered to ensure easy cabling access even when fully populated and there are also additional earth terminals, insulated from the enclosure, for clean earth connections. All copper components are tin plated for improved corrosion resistance, heat dissipation and aesthetics. Safety features include full-form blanking covers to protect unused device ways and neutral terminal bar shrouds for accidental touch protection of live parts.

Havells has already launched a range of domestic consumer units but the Powersafe Type B distribution boards represent the first products in an ambitious range of new circuit protection and control products for commercial and industrial applications. Havells has established a strong team of experienced engineers and sales personnel and is developing products specifically geared to the UK market, with an emphasis on the Building Regulations and the 2011 Amendments to the IET Wiring Regulations, BS 7671.
