Eaton plans to grow its LV systems business with Capitole range (10/10/2006)
Eaton is introducing its Capitole range of LV assemblies. Its main features include:
• Operational reliability
• A rigid construction
• Fast delivery
• A full range of distribution devices including fuse and circuit-breaker technologies
• Minimum footprint with no compromise on space for cabling
• Suitability to a wide range of applications and standards
• High levels of safety in service and during maintenance
• Outgoing fixed, withdrawable and plug-in options for MCCs
• Flexibility to allow on-site re-configuration or extension
Capitole offers a comprehensive range of protection and control devices and accessories. These include air circuit-breakers, moulded-case circuit-breakers, fused combination switches, switch disconnectors and changeover switches with interlock facilities. Both analogue and digital metering options are available and current transformers can be incorporated, even with the system in service. Soft starters, variable-speed drives, PLC controlled changeover systems and power factor correction are all available.
Capitole has a ten-year design pedigree proven by many installations throughout Europe. To meet the needs of UK and Republic of Ireland specifications, plus other international markets served by British consulting engineers, Capitole has undergone design changes and new certification tests. One major enhancement was accommodation of UK cabling specifications.
Two basic systems are available:-
• Capitole 20 for low voltage distribution applications up to 3,200A with a 65kA rated short-time withstand current. Outgoing devices are plug-in type.
• Capitole 40 for low voltage distribution or MCC applications, up to 6,300A with an 80kA short-time withstand current. Outgoing devices can be fixed, plug-in or withdrawable.
Capitole 20 and 40 panels are certified by KEMA-Keur. The KEMA-Keur mark indicates that products have been independently tested to the relevant international standards and production is subject to ongoing surveillance. They are available as fully type-tested assemblies (TTA) or partially type-tested assemblies (PTTA) to IEC 60439. Capitole 40 is also listed by Lloyds’ Register of Shipping.
Capitole is a modular system that relies on the end frames to ensure a rigid construction combined with flexibility in application. This makes for a minimum build time. Top or bottom cable entry is possible. A mid-level busbar ensures shorter connections to components and, in some cases, reduced loading compared with top or bottom mounted busbars. The conductors have an offset at the end so that adjacent bars can be bolted together directly, without the use of a fishplate. All neutrals are fully rated.
Safety is assured with forms of separation up to Form 4a Type 2. Eaton offers a unique approach to segregation, with a build-up system offering full separation of all functional units. The circuit-breakers form the basic building block for this, offering protection against contact with internal live parts and components. Clip-in barriers convert it to a barriered system.
Capitole 20 allows high-density device mounting with up to 24 devices in one column. This ensures excellent utilisation of floor space without compromising cable access.
Its Magnum air circuit-breaker and Series G moulded-case circuit-breakers are designed for global markets and carry KEMA-Keur certification. A new family of control devices targeting international markets – the XT range – is also being introduced.
Associated design software enables Eaton engineers to design a switchboard or motor control centre quickly and accurately, ensuring that all relevant design data is captured and all the necessary components are clearly specified.
“Responding to Customer Insights gained through working on projects throughout the UK we know what our customers value and more importantly understand why”, says Alan Larson Eaton’s Product Line Manager for Low Voltage Systems. “Meeting future product performance specifications is an important factor but customers also value responsive delivery times and a team approach to meeting project timelines, particularly when the specification changes but the end date remains the same.”
“Eaton has established a strong market position with reliable factory-built assemblies shipped to major projects worldwide. This is backed by in-house system engineering and project management capabilities. Capitole is a future-proofed design which we confidently believe will open up even more opportunities in power distribution and motor control” added Alan Larson.
Capitole LV switchgear and control gear assemblies are suited to applications in hospitals, schools, retail developments, commercial buildings, water and waste treatment works, and manufacturing and process industries.
