Legrand's Synergy wiring devices and Swifts cable tray and ladder used in the Savoy restoration (11/02/2011)
Established in 1889, The Savoy was the brainchild of the Gilbert and Sullivan impresario Richard D'Oyly Carte. A £220million refurbishment project saw The Savoy restored to its former glory over three years, with its two main design aesthetics, Edwardian and Art Deco, being carefully brought back to life under the direction of designer Pierre Yves Rochon. More than 1,000 craftsmen and women, artists and artisans worked tirelessly to create interiors that were in keeping with the original spirit of The Savoy.
Legrand has seen products from its wiring devices and cable management divisions used extensively throughout the newly reopened Savoy, London. The company supplied a wide selection of Synergy wiring devices and Swifts cable tray and ladder for use in the ambitious restoration of the world famous hotel.
Chris Clements, Legrand’s international key accounts and project manager, commented: “The Savoy is amongst the most famous hotel names in the world and so every manufacturer in the electrical industry was eager to ensure their products were specified for use in this extraordinary restoration project.”
“We secured the wiring device element of the project following a competitive presentation to consultant, Hurley Palmer Flatt and the hotel’s owners, the Fairmont Hotel Group during which we demonstrated not just the high quality of our Synergy range, but our ability to deliver bespoke solutions that met the exceptionally high standards of the specification.”
Legrand then secured the cable management order thanks to its ability to also deliver competitively priced, market leading solutions in this sector.
Adam Cecil, operations director of main electrical contractor, Phoenix Electrical, said: “Legrand’s market leading position in both the wiring device and cable management sectors solutions was a key factor in it securing both elements of the order, as it meant we only had to deal with one business, and one point of contact, for two significant aspects of the electrical fit out.”
Legrand supplied bespoke chrome and brass roped edge wiring devices from its Synergy range for use in all guestrooms and public areas, while its Swifts cable tray and ladder was used to carry power and data cables through the hotel.
