APC Back-UPS ES 550 and 700 increase energy efficiency (21/10/2009)
APC by Schneider Electric has announced the introduction of its newly redesigned APC Back-UPS® ES 550 and 700 models. The new Back-UPS ES 550 and 700 feature an innovative high efficiency design with Power Saving feature. In addition to saving electricity, these uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) provide connected equipment with APC’s battery backup and surge protection.
“APC is committed to looking at new ways to increase energy efficiency across all market segments. With this in mind, APC carefully redesigned the Back-UPS ES 550 & 700 models of uninterruptible power supplies to meet high standards of efficiency in terms of function,” said Paul Tyrer, Vice President UK and Ireland, APC by Schneider Electric. “Additionally, the Back-UPS ES 550 & 700 VA models feature the master and controlled outlets to help reduce the cost of ‘dark loads’ for consumers.”
The new Back-UPS ES, 550 and 700 models boast a new industrial design seamlessly incorporates power saving (load shedding) feature in an user friendly way. Additionally, the packaging for these new units is made from recycled material.
The APC Back-UPS ES 550 & 700 feature SmartShedding™ Technology which allows the product’s master outlet to sense when the computer has either been turned off or has gone into sleep mode, so it can shut off power to unused peripherals plugged into the controlled outlets – saving consumers power and money. By cutting power to these “dark loads,” the APC Back-UPS ES 550 &700 could save up to £39 a year on some electricity tariffs in the London area. This calculation is based on 21 hours of idle time per day and 20.04 pence per Kilowatt hour of plugged in equipment using 25 Watts per hour in standby mode (*).The type of equipment plugged in, length of idle time and electricity costs will impact on individual savings.
The APC Back-UPS ES 550 and 700 models feature eight outlets, all of which are surge protected with four of the eight also providing battery backup. Additionally, the APC Back-UPS ES 550 and 700 offer telephone and Ethernet protection ensuring surges and spikes do not travel through data lines. A data port included enables communication with APC’s PowerChute® Personal Edition software, which gracefully powers down the computer system automatically in the event of an extended power outage.
Currently available throughout the UK and Ireland, the new APC Back-UPS ES models BE550G-UK, BE700G-UK carry estimated retail prices of £74.99 and £84.99 respectively and come standard with APC’s lifetime Equipment Protection Policy, which covers properly connected equipment up to £50,000 (see policy for details).
