Unveiled by Edgar Brothers at the Gadget Show the new Light for Life™ UC3.400™ rechargeable torch uses a breakthrough technology, allowing it to be fully charged in just 90 seconds and keeps shining for the best part of 24 hours.

It does not contain batteries, instead the Light for Life relies on FlashPoint Power Technology which means the UC3.400™ maximizes performance and run time from just one 90-second energy hit. It comes complete with a 12V DC charging base that plugs neatly into your car, as well as a mounting plate and a belt ring.

FlashPoint Power Technology uses ultracapacitors working together with computer circuitry to efficiently manage how energy is loaded into the torch, and then optimises how the energy is dispersed.

The UC3.400™ is rated for 50,000 charge and discharge cycles with virtually no degradation and no memory — even in severe temperature conditions. That’s one charge a day for more than 135 years. Compare that to current rechargeable torches. They begin to lose the ability to hold a full charge after the first use, are highly susceptible to temperature fluctuations, and have an expected life of 500 to 1,000 charge/discharge cycles or one to three years for a professional user. The Light for Life’s three LED bulbs are rated for 50,000 hours and never have to be replaced.

At about 16oz the torch weighs approximately half as much as a competitor’s full-size duty torch. Constructed from top-quality materials and precision engineered, the Light for Life is robust enough to last at least a decade of maintenance-free operation under typical conditions.

The Light for Life™ UC3.400™ produces 270 peak lumens in bright mode, 90 lumens in standard mode, and has a 270-lumen tactical strobe.

The Light for Life™ UC3.400 has the lowest operating cost of any duty torch on the market, giving an impressive return on investment and overall operational cost savings of at least 40% – making Light for Life™ a financially responsible proposition.

Made of a high-strength polymer the UC3.400™ casing is fully sealed against the elements. It’s abrasion, crack and bend-resistant. The temperature-tolerant ultracapacitors are rated at -40° F to 149° F (-40° C to 65° C). Also, the water-resistant, ruggedly built UC3.400™ torch features solid-state construction and is RoHS compliant.

A full line of accessories will also be available including AC adaptor, lens filters, flare cones and holsters.

“The excitement around this new rechargeable technology is as charged as the product itself,” says Edgar Brothers Managing Director Derek Edgar. “It’s a fantastic first for Edgar Brothers. We are proud to be able to launch this incredible innovation at The Gadget Show. We believe it will transform the personal illumination product market.”

Edgar Brothers is now accepting preorders. The Light for Life UC3.400 torch will be available in autumn 2009 and comes with a limited lifetime warranty covering normal on-duty / off-duty wear.
