An order for twenty MK Metalclad sockets might not seem a daunting demand for an electrical distributor, but for WF Electrical’s Liverpool branch the request involved a record breaking 450 mile journey and a race against time of epic proportions.

The routine, but urgent, request was from a WF customer working in London on the final stages of a new restaurant for the Piccolinos pizza chain. However the sockets they needed were the non standard version with a T shaped earth for the tills and food ordering equipment and it soon became evident that they were as scarce as the average Ferrari.

Having established that there were none at the branch, none at any other branch and none at WF’s National Distribution Centre, in Dagenham, it transpired that even MK’s shelves at Basildon were bare. However, persistence paid off when the requisite number of sockets was located at MK’s warehouse in Helsby, 20 miles from Liverpool.

By now mid-morning, the only option was for representative Paul White to drive the ten hour round-trip to the capital to deliver them personally. Nevertheless, the products arrived to be received by a relieved and grateful client who otherwise faced a serious financial penalty if the new restaurant’s opening had been delayed.

WF Electrical’s managing director Brian Smithers commented, “WF has always been prepared to go the extra mile for its customers, but Liverpool branch has broken all records in going 450 extra miles for one of theirs”.
